In-study bursaries

A bursary is a non-repayable award given on the basis of financial need. Bursaries range in value and depend on individual circumstances and financial need. Unless otherwise indicated, students receive bursaries as a tuition credit.

Please read eligibility criteria carefully before submitting your application.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Students must meet the following criteria (as well as those specific to the bursary to which they're applying) in order to qualify:

  • Be enrolled at OCAD University during the 2016/2017 academic year
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person
  • Be an Ontario resident as defined by Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)
  • Demonstrate financial need

OCAD U Bursary and Work-Study

OCAD U bursaries are awarded depending on individual circumstances, financial need and as per the MTCU (Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities) SAG (Student Access Guarantee) guidelines. The bursary is given as tuition credits, and students receiving a bursary are notified in December.

Access Bursary

The Access Bursary program is designed to assist students who face extreme financial hardship in attending post-secondary and have been involved with community-based programs which have supported them in their efforts to reach post-secondary. Access bursaries vary in amount, and may be renewable based on individual circumstances. Bursaries can be awarded via tuition credits or cheque. The Access Bursary program is established through tuition revenues via the OCAD U Student Assistance Fund (OSAF) and bursary program.

Emergency Bursary

Emergency bursary funds are designed to assist students who experience an unexpected financial crisis that is unplanned, beyond the student’s control, and has an immediate negative financial impact. Emergency bursaries range greatly in value, depending on individual circumstances and the payment format (tuition credit or cheque) will also vary. Emergency funds are limited.

Students experiencing a financial crisis are encouraged to come to the Financial Aid & Awards office to discuss their financial situation.

Florence Bursary Andre Beaulieu 

Florence bursaries can range in value depending on individual circumstances, and generally are given as tuition credits in August. The Florence Bursary programs are established through endowments to the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) and tuition revenues (OSAF).

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

In addition to the above criteria, students must meet the following in order to apply for a bursary through this program:

  • Be a full-time student at OCAD U studying in the Florence program during the 2016/2017 academic year 
  • Demonstrate financial need (Priority is given to OSAP students. Non-OSAP students will be considered if funds are available.)

Mobility/Exchange Bursary

The Joubin-Selig Bursary was established by the Franc R. Joubin Trust/Marion, Marea and David Selig through the Ontario Trust for Student Support (OTSS) to assist gifted and/or financially needy students to study enrichment programs in their field of study in Canada and internationally. Mobility/Exchange Joubin-Selig OTSS bursaries range in value.

The St. George Society of Toronto in Honour of Rosalie Sharp Bursary was established to assist students studying in the United Kingdom.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

In addition to the above criteria, students must meet the following in order to apply for a bursary through this program:

  • Be participating in the Mobility/Exchange program during their 3rd or 4th year of undergraduate study and be studying at a a school with which OCAD U has an official exchange agreement in either the fall or winter semesters
  • Demonstrate financial need (Priority is given to OSAP students. Non-OSAP students will be considered if funds are available.)
  • The bursary is tenable upon proof of registration at the host institution. Information will be verified through the International Student Services Office.
  • Recipients will be required to submit a thank you letter upon receipt of their award and a written report about their experience upon completion of their studies abroad. The report will be forwarded to the donor(s) and should include images of any work produced during the semester

Ontario Aboriginal Post-Secondary Education and Training

OCAD U is pleased to announce that the Government of Ontario has allocated funding to create a bursary fund for Aboriginal students through the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Aboriginal post-secondary education funding approach. This bursary opportunity will provide direct support to Aboriginal students with financial need to access support to aid their participation in post-secondary education and training. Ontario Aboriginal PSET bursaries range in value.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

In addition to the above criteria, students must meet the following in order to apply for a bursary through this program:

  • Be of Canadian Aboriginal heritage (self-identification is sufficient)  
  • Be studying on a full-time basis at OCAD U during the 2016/2017 academic year (as defined by OSAP)
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person
  • Be an Ontario resident as defined by OSAP

Ontario First-Generation Bursary

OCAD U is pleased to announce that the Government of Ontario has allocated funding to create a bursary fund for first-generation students through the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Access and Opportunities Strategy. This bursary opportunity will provide direct support to students with financial need who are the first in their families to attend college or university. A limited number of bursaries is available.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

In addition to the above criteria, students must meet the following in order to apply for a bursary through this program:

  • Be studying on a full-time basis at OCAD U (as defined by OSAP) during the 2016/2017 academic year in an undergraduate degree program
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person
  • Be an Ontario resident as defined by OSAP
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Be a student whose parents do not have a university/college education
  • Submit a 250-500 word essay

Summer Bursary Program

Applications for the summary bursary program are adjudicated early June.

The number of summer bursaries is dependent on the amount of financial assistance available from the ministry, which fluctuates yearly. The summer bursary program is established through tuition revenues and has been established through the OCAD U Student Assistant Fund (OSAF) bursary program.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

In addition to the above criteria, students must meet the following in order to apply for a bursary through this program:

  • Be studying on a full- or part-time basis at OCAD U during the 2017 summer session
  • Demonstrate financial need (priority is given to OSAP students)

APPLICATION PROCEDURES & DEADLINE

The application and deadline to apply will be posted in April 2017.
