Dr. Sheila Cote-Meek is the Associate Vice-President, Academic & Indigenous Programs at Laurentian University where she is responsible for university faculty relations as well as leading the development of Indigenous academic development across various disciplines including the development of an Indigenous Education Centre dedicated to Indigenous learning, culture and scholarly pursuit at Laurentian University. A full professor in her home department, the School of Rural and Northern Health, she has developed expertise in Indigenous relations in the areas of health, education and research. Sheila is a member of the Teme-Augama Anishnabai.

Hit the Ground Running: New-and-returning faculty orientation 2016

This interactive session will introduce the fundamentals of teaching. We will address everything from setting the tone of the first day of class to preparing lesson plans and engaging students. We've got you covered to hit the ground and the semester running. While the primary audience is new faculty, all faculty are welcome to attend. Lunch is included in Monday's session; dinner is included in Wednesday's session.

Faculty may choose between one of the following two sessions:

Monday, August 29: 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

or

Wednesday, August 31: 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Canvas Bootcamp

Introduction to Canvas bootcamp

This introductory session is intended for instructors who are brand new to Canvas. Participants will get a brief overview of best practices in Canvas, including how to organize your online environment and use basic communication tools to stay in touch with students. New faculty are strongly encouraged to to register for the FCDC's other orientation event, Hit the Ground Running.
