O-DAYS! 2016

A number of department- and group-specific #ODAYS16 activities are planned the week of August 29, 2016, culminating in the Campus Life and OCAD University Student Union (OCADSU) collaborative BIG-O-Day! on Tuesday, September 6, when nearly 1,000 new and first-year #OCADU2020 undergrads will descend upon campus to kick off the 2016/2017 academic year!

You can pick up your photo ID at the Office of the Registrar, Level 5, 230 Richmond St. W., 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Government-issued photo ID is required. This free workshop that offers hands-on exercises that will give you the opportunity to build essential tools for success in both your liberal studies and studio courses. FREE WORKSHOP; COMPUTERS & TECHNOLOGY AT OCAD U

This workshop is designed as a hands-on introduction (or refresher) for technology at OCAD U and how the University uses it to support and communicate with its students.

Discussion will introduce a variety of tools in place at OCAD U and include:

> the expanded laptop program
> how to navigate a Macintosh or Windows computer/laptop
> basic file manipulation
> use of USB keys and other storage devices
> student email
> security
> CANVAS (learning management system for students and faculty)
> Microsoft Office suite and more

All participants are encouraged to come with any questions they would like to discuss to help them transition into the post-secondary digital world. NOTE: Be sure to bring your 7-digit student number and PIN to save time.

A re-organization of your time, energy and resources is an important part of the transition to OCAD U. In this free workshop, we will discuss strategies and tips on how to organize your time, set realistic goals and gain insight into your personal work style. We will engage in hands-on activities that will assist you in setting priorities,developing a schedule and managing your stress for the years ahead. Participants should bring their course schedules and any day-timers or calendars they currently use.

COMPASS: A FIRST GENERATION STUDENT ORIENTATION

Day ONE of TWO

COMPASS is a two-day orientation specifically for First Generation Students, that is, students whose parents did not attend university, or did not attend university in Canada. It is an opportunity to meet other students, faculty and upper year students and get a head start at OCAD University. We will be doing a mock critique, discussing time management strategies, learning more about your program and getting to know the campus. Lunch and snacks will be provided!

We recommend that you attend both days as each day has different activities. However, if you can only attend one day that is not a problem! If you would like to attend or have any questions please email Stephanie Dayes, Coordinator, Writing & Learning Centre.

MATURE STUDENT WELCOME / MIXER
5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

You're "older" than average? So what?! As a mature student who is 25+, your experience will be different in many ways and you are not alone. That's what! This annual mature student-specific activity is a great opportunity to mix, mingle and get acquainted with other peers. O-NIGHT!

O-NIGHT! WITH MxD

O-NIGHT! is a welcoming party hosted by MxD - OCAD Dance, with support from the OCAD Student Union (OCADSU). Designed to provide new undergrad students the opportunity to continue connection and integration, creating those oh, so important, peer-to-peer relations! Get familiar with student-run initiatives coordinated by MxD and our collaborating partners, as well as learn more from upper-year students.
