What are Faculty of Design expansion studios?

Expansion studios allow students to pursue breadth and depth of knowledge in all design programs through a variety of selective course offerings beginning in the third year. Students may elect to do introductory courses that expand their knowledge into other program areas, or they may choose to take courses in one area for more focused study. The number of expansion studios required for each program in design varies.

Generally, expansion studios begin with the course code GDES for the subject area General Design. Students may request approval from their Program Chair to substitute a maximum of 1.0 credit of relevant, out-of-program courses as expansion studios prior to the commencement of classes.
