Explore Your Imagination at OCAD University
Success in art and design is about passion, exploration and the development of a strong conceptual voice. Novice artists and designers often confuse the medium with the methodology and become focused on the outcome rather than the process involved in creating work. The Summer Intensive Program will help you see the differences.
How do you view your world? Are there different ways of looking at the same thing? How do you effectively convey your voice to others?
Your portfolio is a visual representation of who you are and your personal interpretation of the world. We've assembled a team of practicing artists and designers trained to help you approach the creation of your work from different perspectives. Throughout the week you'll listen to informative speakers, produce work, engage with faculty and participate in critiques. With a focus on creative exploration and conceptual development, you'll identify strengths and weaknesses, gain confidence and build a solid foundation to further develop your portfolio.
Each instructor for the studio has been chosen for a unique approach to the creative process and use of very different materials for self-expression. During a full studio day with each artist/designer, you'll learn how to make your own creative decisions, discuss your work and what statement it makes. Critiques and discussions will allow you to showcase your own accomplishments. Throughout the week, visits from practicing artists and designers will give you insight into their worlds. You will receive good advice and encouragement as you aspire to achieve your dream.
Materials will be provided but if there are special requirements, you will be advised by email.
Learn to:
- identify your strengths and weaknesses by exploring different mediums and materials
- develop themes, draw conclusions and learn how to document your creative process
- effectively discuss and present your work
Please note that the Summer Intensive Program is primarily designed for people who are interested in applying to a post-secondary art or design school. The curriculum of the program is not appropriate for students below the age of 15.
