HOW TO APPLY
*We will continue to accept applications for the Graduate Diploma on an ongoing basis until all places in the program have been filled. Applications are considered in the order in which they are received.*
The application deadline for the Master's in Digital Futures has passed. We are no longer accepting applications for the 2012/13 academic year.
Graduate Diploma in Digital Futures
Application for admission into the Graduate Diploma in Digital Futures will be competitive. Applicants must hold a BA, BFA, BDes, BCom, BSc, BEng or comparable honours degree/certification with a GPA of 75% (B+) or better during the last two years of study, or must demonstrate exceptional experience and expertise as a professional or practitioner in a relevant discipline. All applicants must demonstrate creative and conceptual competence at a high level, as well as the clear potential for acquiring a sufficient level of expertise in the diverse disciplines relevant to this Graduate Diploma to create a truly innovative, germane and implementable project or prototype at the graduate level.
Application for admission into the Graduate Diploma in Digital Futures will be competitive. For consideration by the admissions committee, applicants must submit the following:
- Graduate Studies Application Form
- Letter of Intent: Applicants to the Graduate Diploma must demonstrate their plans to pursue part-time studies with a high level of commitment for combining their industrial, business, professional or practice-based work in their academic program with an outline proposal for a culminating capstone digital project or prototype.
- Samples of work: Applicants must submit samples of relevant student and/or professional work produced in the last five years. Visual work, analysis reports, proposal documents, etc., may be included. Applicants are expected to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of their primary area of interest. The applicant’s best work should be represented.
- CV: Applicants should include an updated copy of their curriculum vitae.
- One copy of official academic transcripts from all previously attended post-secondary institutions.
- Two completed Reference Forms.
- $100 CDN application fee.
Short-listed candidates will be invited for an interview. Alternative arrangements will be made for applicants who are unable to attend the interview in person.
Master’s in Digital Futures
Application for admission into the Master’s in Digital Futures will be competitive. Applicants must hold a BA, BFA, BDes, BCom, BSc, BEng or comparable honours degree/certification with a GPA of 80% (A-) or better during the last two years of study, or must demonstrate exceptional experience and expertise as a practitioner in a relevant discipline. All applicants must demonstrate creative and conceptual competence at a high level, as well as the clear potential for acquiring a sufficient level of expertise in the diverse disciplines relevant to this degree.
For consideration by the admissions committee, applicants must submit the following:
- Graduate Studies Application Form
- Statement of Intent: Applicants should describe their key area of intended practice and research in the program, and their chosen stream: MDes, MFA, or MA. The statement should detail how the applicant’s academic background and professional experience relates to their chosen stream, and how the intended practice and research aligns with the objectives of the program. The proposal must be typed and should be 800 to 1,000 words in length. Appendices, including bibliography and works cited, may be included if appropriate.
- Samples of work: Applicants must submit samples of relevant student and/or professional work produced in the last five years. Visual work, analysis reports, proposal documents, etc., may be included. Applicants are expected to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of their primary area of interest. The applicant’s best work should be represented.
- CV: Applicants should include an updated copy of their curriculum vitae.
- One copy of official academic transcripts from all previously attended post-secondary institutions.
- Three completed Reference Forms.

Short-listed candidates will be invited for an interview. The interview is an ideal opportunity for the candidate to meet with faculty, ask questions about the program and visit studio facilities and labs at OCAD U. Alternative arrangements will be made for applicants who are unable to attend the interview in person.
**Note: admission to the degree program is contingent on the availability of an appropriate Principal Advisor in the student’s declared area of research interest.
