PEER MENTORS

Be a Peer Mentor!
Campus Life recruits student Peer Mentors January through April.
What is a Peer Mentor?
Peer Mentors are knowledgeable, upper-year student volunteers who are assigned to a small group of new and first-year students (Mentees), and who assist them with their transition to OCAD U by encouraging community involvement and engagement with peers, faculty and staff. She/he will also provide one-on-one encouragement, support, guidance and information regarding OCAD U's procedures, student support services and extracurricular activities.

Are you interested in becoming a Peer Mentor? Join us, along with new and first-year mature and international students coming to OCAD U in September who can benefit from your diverse and shared experiences.
As a Peer Mentor, you will:

- Be engaging and fun, the day allows new and returning Peer Mentors to connect and bond while receiving important and motivational information as a group.
- Represent the program and greet new students at Registration Assistance Days (June/July) and/or fall Orientation & Welcome activities (September), as well as other OCAD U events where the presence of Peer Mentors is beneficial.
- Contribute and participate online as moderators (May to September) with other Peer Mentors.
- Be matched with a small group of Student Mentees.
- Initiate contact, make introductions and clarify their preferred method of communication. Encourage them to contact you with questions or concerns.
- Establish a monthly communication schedule and officially "check-in" with individual Student Mentees on a regular basis for the duration of the program.
- Check email regularly and kindly respond within 24 hours.
- Attend a mandatory Mentor Program Welcome, a "meet and greet" during fall Orientation & Welcome in September, and invite your Student Mentees to meet in person.
- Work with a team of other Peer Mentors to create a monthly activity for Student Mentees: from September through to November.
