Biographical Dictionary of Architects in Canada, 1800-1950
The Dictionary is written, edited and compiled by Robert G. Hill, Architect, MRAIC. Browse or keyword search biographies of nearly 1,700 architects who lived and worked in Canada as well as those architects who resided in the United States, Britain and elsewhere, and for whom it is now possible to link their names with buildings constructed in this country.

The Canadian Association of Photographers and Illustrators in Communcations:  (Capic ) is a Canadian organization that was formed in 1978 to further the professional development of illustrators, photographers and digital artists. IPA
The Illustrators' Partnership of America (IPA) is largely directed by such high profile illustrators as Brad Holland, C.F. Payne and Gary Taxali among others. It is an organization which focuses on the idea of artists taking back control and rights over their work. Issues pursued on this site include: copyright revisions (US), stockhouses and orphaned works.

AOI
The Association of Illustrators (UK): "The AOI was established in 1973 to advance and protect illustrator’s rights and encourage professional standards. The AOI is a non-profit making trade association dedicated to its members’ professional interests and the promotion of illustration."

Microsoft Typography
Includes a database of articles, information, and instructional guides on typography. Information organized by topic, including "About Fonts," "Developing Fonts," and "Tools & Utilities." Highly recommended.

Garage Fonts
Created in 1993 to distribute the experimental fonts used in Raygun Magazine, users can search this database of innovative fonts (full alphabet and sample phrases) for free by font name, designer, or classification. Font packages can be purchased online.

LinoType
Contains more than 4000 typefaces and aims to support an open exchange of ideas and information in the field of typography.

Phil's Fonts
Search over 30,000 fonts from 75 foundries. Full font alphabets can be viewed, although packages must be purchased. Free fonts are offered if user logs in with personal information.

Graphic Design Basics

The Advertising Century
Online version of a "major project to chronicle the history of the era's advertising industry. The years from 1900 to 1999 were, in fact, when the advertising business came of age." Features an introductory essay, lists of top 100 advertising campaigns (such as Volkswagen's 1959 "Think Small" and the 1955 Marlboro Man), top 100 industry players, and top 10 jingles, slogans, and ad icons. Also includes a timeline back to the 1700s.

Zenith Media
A most useful database of advertising information and a directory of company Web sites, with links organized by category or media. Includes a historical timeline beginning in the 11th century and a useful bibliography (just citations not full text) of advertising publications organized by country.

Strategis: Canada's Business and Consumer Site
Government of Canada: In-depth current events, market information, statistics resources and governmental/legal information (including copyrights) on business in Canada.

MrWeb: Market Research Industry Online
