Art in Florence: Opening Doors with OCAD U May 18 - 26, 2017
Bask in Renaissance painting, sculpture, and architecture in Florence this May. Our small group of travelers will experience art in Florence, immersion style! Finding yourself bathed in the intensely inspiring art of the Renaissance will make your creative heart race, and when our classic art studio in Italy is unlocked to greet you each day there’s no telling what can happen.
The Alumni Association will open the doors of OCAD U's Florence Campus studio exclusively for our group. We are privileged to offer open-studio opportunities each morning for our travellers to enjoy art expression at leisure. The studio is the ideal setting for those wanting to practice their craft, or for those feeling inspired to connect with their inner artist on this trip. Our OCAD U connections will continue to open doors for us as we explore the lesser –seen areas of famous galleries during our tours around the city that is home to some of the world’s greatest artistic treasures.
We will spend 7 nights in a classic Florentine hotel in the heart of the city. After a delicious breakfast each day, travellers may enjoy a short walk near the Arno River to OCAD U’s studio to draw, paint and create at leisure until lunch; perhaps peer critiques over espresso or a glass of Chianti! If you’d rather admire great works than create them yourself, you will be delighted to find great masterpieces simply by strolling the narrow streets and alleys around our hotel. The whole of the city’s historic centre is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
In the afternoons we will meet up with our art historian for private guided tours of Florence’s iconic galleries and museums. Highlights include: San Marc’s Friary with magnificent frescoes, Brunelleschi’s work, Medici family church, Academia with Michelangelo’s "David", and the Vasari Corridor; a secret passage linking Palazzo Vecchio with Pitti Palace!
For dinner, indulge in delicious Florentine cuisine at our specially-chosen local restaurants where conversations about the art of the day will flow freely along with the local wine.
Florence is unsurpassed in the history of Renaissance art and architecture but is also capital of the stunningly picturesque Tuscany region. We will enjoy a guided exploration by private coach to other art filled destinations like Siena.
