STEP 1: Review the Application Requirements and program-specific eligibility

This information can be found on the Application Requirements webpage.

STEP 2: Apply online using the Graduate Application Portal

All applicants to Graduate Studies at OCAD University must first complete a graduate application through the portal found here. If you are applying to more than one graduate program, you must submit a separate application for each program you wish to be considered for. On the application you will be asked to enter your contact information, details about your academic history, and provide a SlideRoom ID number (you will receive this SlideRoom ID when you complete Step 3 of the application process).

STEP 3: Prepare for and complete the SlideRoom portion of your application

Each applicant must submit the following items through SlideRoom for each program they are applying to. In addition to any program specific required documents outlined on the Application Requirements page.

Transcripts: Unofficial transcripts must be scanned, uploaded and attached to your SlideRoom application form. If you do not complete this step you will not be able to complete your final submission. Scanned Transcripts must conform to the following presentation standards:
  • PDF format (.pdf extension); unprotected
  • Must be scanned as a single document
  • Transcript text orientation should be upright (if possible) and must be readable on a computer monitor without any adjustment by the viewer.
  • One copy of the legend (reverse of each transcript) must be included. Do not scan the legend multiple times.

Reference Letters: Applicants will be prompted to enter the names and email addresses of those individuals who will be providing letters of reference on their behalf as part of their application. Once you have submitted your application online, your referees will be sent an email with detailed instructions on how to upload their letters of reference. You and your referee will receive an email confirmation when the letter has been uploaded successfully.

Application Fee: The Graduate Studies application fee is $100 USD ($150 USD for late applications), in addition to a SlideRoom submission fee (which may range from $5 to $12 USD). The submission fee amount varies depending on which program you are applying to and how many media items you upload. Application and submission fees are non-refundable and charged for each program for which you apply.

For technical assistance from SlideRoom please contact support@slideroom.com; you can also access the SlideRoom help desk at slideroom.zendesk.com

STEP 4: Finalize and submit your application

The Graduate Application Portal and SlideRoom will allow you to log in and start a Graduate Studies Application which you can edit as often as required. However, once your application materials have been submitted, no further changes will be allowed.

Once your application has been successfully submitted through both the Graduate Application Portal and SlideRoom, and your application fee paid, you will receive official emails acknowledging receipt of your application. Any further required steps or actions will be outlined at this time.

At this point, please ensure that any English Proficiency tests have been completed at an authorized testing body. Electronic scores will be sent to us, paper copies will no longer be accepted. Please refer to the Application Requirements page for further details.

We recommend our online application portal as the preferred method to submit your application. If you are unable to apply online, please contact us at gradstudies@ocadu.ca.

STEP 5: Application review process

Only complete applications will be reviewed by our Admissions Committees. Approximately a month after the application deadline, you will be able to log into the Graduate Application Portal and verify if your application is missing any items. If your application is deemed to be complete, no items will be listed.

Once the program specific Admissions Committee has reviewed your submitted application, you may be contacted by the Office of Graduate Studies and invited to an interview (where applicable). If you are invited to an interview, it may take place in-person or remotely (e.g. teleconference or Skype). The application review process, including interviews, normally takes between four to eight weeks.

STEP 6: Admissions decisions and offers

Once a decision is made regarding your application an official letter of offer will be sent to you via email from the Office of Graduate Studies. This will happen normally by April 1. Late applicants will be notified within six to eight weeks of their application being received. Please inform us of any contact information changes during the application process.

If you are offered admission to one of our programs you will have a limited time (normally two weeks) to accept the offer of admission. This offer will be conditional upon receiving official transcripts from all previous attended post-secondary institutions by August 1, 2016. Official confidential transcripts must be sent directly from the institution to:

Graduate Admissions

Office of Graduate Studies
OCAD University
100 McCaul Street
Toronto, ON Canada

Please note that applicants meeting the minimum requirements for admission are not guaranteed admission into a graduate program. Furthermore, program admission may be limited to students whose interests are compatible with the specific program mandate, available resources and faculty expertise.

You may receive a letter indicating that you have been placed on the waiting list. If you receive this notification, and you have accepted admissions to another university, please advise us.

If you receive a letter from the Office of Graduate Studies informing you that you have not been selected for admission, you may fall into one of three general categories:

  • Although you meet the minimum program requirements, due to a combination of a highly competitive process and a limited number of spaces, we were unable to admit you.
  • You have not met the minimum program requirements (e.g., GPA, English language requirements, etc.).
  • You were deemed ineligible (e.g., non-relevant degree, lack of academic qualifications).
