Cross-Disciplinary Art: Publications

Cross-Disciplinary Art specializations engage course offerings from Art, Design and Liberal Arts & Sciences, fostering hybrid and collaborative methodologies, critical thinking, acquisition of business and entrepreneurial skills, and a multi-dimensional learning experience in a studio-based context.

An increased content of Liberal Arts and Sciences courses provides cultural and historical contexts for these practices, grounding students’ work in solid critical skills.

In the Publications Specialization, students address all areas of book and magazine publishing, both digital and print, from DIY endeavours to academic publishing. Considering publication in its broadest sense as a form of discourse for both personal and collaborative production, students are introduced to the breadth of possibilities in critical, textual and visual publishing.

Publications ties together courses from:

  • Printmaking
  • Photography
  • Integrated Media
  • Criticism & Curatorial Practice

As well, it draws on courses from Graphic Design and Liberal Arts and Sciences to give students a true cross-disciplinary experience and unique set of competencies and skills ranging from hybrid and collaborative methodologies to business and entrepreneurial skills that will allow them to succeed in the context of Ontario’s digital and creative economies.
