B&W PRINTING

B&W Printing for Students

How to Load My Student Print Account

  1. Go to the cashier in the Red Building (Rosalie Sharp Pavillion) at 115 McCaul Street in the basement.
  2. Present your student card to the cashier.
  3. Indicate that you want to add to your print account, and not your copy account.
  4. Pay the cashier the amount you want added to the account. The cashier accepts cash, debit and credit cards.

During regular cashier hours you may only add money to your print account at the cashier. You may not add money at the Digital Print Centre.

How to Print in the Labs

  1. Login to a computer in the lab with your OCAD U username and password.
  2. Open the document you want to print.
  3. Make sure the document has been saved properly. Please see file preparation.
  4. Make sure you have enough money in your print account.
  5. Select File > Page Setup in the application you are working.
  6. Select either letter (8.5 x 11) or tabloid (11 x 17).
  7. Press OK.
  8. Select File > Print in the application you are working.
  9. Printers are labeled by room number and paper size. Select the printer that is appropriate for you. For example, if you want to print on 11 x 17 in room 317f, select 317f_Ricoh_SP6330N_Tabloid.
  10. Your print should now process.

At peak times, prints can take several minutes to process. Please be patient.

How to Find Out Why Your File Isn't Printing in the Lab

Solution 1 – Add more money to your print account.

  1. Check your student print account. You may not have enough money to print.
  2. If not, reload your student print account. See How to Load my Student Print Account.
  3. Resend your job.

Solution 2 – Wait for the print server to be less busy.

  1. If there are many or large jobs ahead of yours, it may take a while to print.
  2. Do not resend your print job.

Solution 3 – Check that you sent your job to the correct printer.

  1. Check the print queue monitor beside the printer. If your job has not printed and is not listed in the queue, you may have sent it to the wrong printer.
  2. Check the label on the printer for its name. Verify this is the same printer you sent to by checking the print settings on your computer.
  3. If you accidentally sent your job to the wrong printer, it likely printed in another room. Check the printer where you accidentally sent your job. Printers are labeled by room number. For example, 640_Ricoh SP6330N_Tabloid is located in room 640.

Solution 4 – Make your file smaller.

  1. Check the print queue monitor beside the printer. If your job is larger than 25MB, then it may not print. It also may clog the server so other people cannot print.
  2. Try resaving your file to make it smaller. Please see the section on File Preparation.
  3. Once you have reduced the file size, then you can resend it.
  4. Resend your print job.

Solution 5 – Correct your page size.

  1. Many versions of Word default to the size A4, but OCAD U's printers stock only letter and tabloid sizes. Check your page setup to make sure your page is one of these sizes.
  2. If your file is letter size, make sure you are sending your file to a letter-size printer.
  3. If your file is tabloid size, make sure you are sending your file to a tabloid-size printer.
  4. Resend your print job.

How to Find Out Why Your File Isn't Printing from Your Laptop

Solution 1 – Add more money to your print account.

  1. Check your student print account. You may not have enough money to print.
  2. If not, reload your student print account. Please see How to Load my Student Print Account.
  3. Resend your job.

Solution 2 – Wait for the print server to be less busy.

  1. If there are many or large jobs ahead of yours, it may take a while to print.
  2. Do not resend your job.
  3. Check with IT Services or visit one of the Digital Print Centres and provide the printer name (i.e. 317f_Ricoh SP6330N_Tabloid). There you will be able to see list of jobs waiting in the print queue and have a better idea of when you will receive your print.  If there is a job holding the rest back they will be able to cancel it etc.

Solution 3 – Check that you sent your job to the correct printer.

  1. It is possible that you sent your job to a printer in a different location than the one you desire.
  2. Check the label on the printer for its name. Verify this is the same printer you sent to by checking the print settings on your computer.
  3. If you accidentally sent your job to the wrong printer, it likely printed in another room. Check the printer where you accidentally sent your job. Printers are labeled by room number. For example, 640_Ricoh SP6330_Tabliod is located in room 640.

Solution 4 – Make your file smaller.

  1. The print server can not handle large files sizes. If your job is larger than 25MB, it may not print. It also may clog the server so other people cannot print.
  2. Try resaving your file to make it smaller. Please see the article on File Preparation.
  3. Once you have reduced the file size, then you can resend it.
  4. Resend your print job.

Solution 5 – Correct your page size.

  1. Many versions of Word default to the size A4, but OCAD U’s printers stock only letter and tabloid sizes. Check your page setup to make sure your page is one of these sizes.
  2. If your file is letter size, make sure you are sending your file to a letter-size printer.
  3. If your file is tabloid size, make sure you are sending your file to a tabloid-size printer.
  4. Resend your print job.

Solution 6 – Make Sure You Are Logged on to the OCAD University wireless network.

  1. Open any web browser.
  2. Type any URL in the location bar.
  3. If the pink Wireless Authentication Page does not load, you are logged on to the OCAD U wireless. See other solutions on this page.
  4. If the pink Wireless Authentication Page does load, enter your login credentials.
  5. Wait for the authentication to complete.
  6. Resend your print job.

Solution 7 – Reinstall the OCAD U printers after a password change

  1. If you have changed your password since the last time you installed the OCAD U printers, you need to reinstall them.
  2. Go to the Laptop Program website and click the link that says Install Printer Drivers and Campus Printers
  3. Follow the steps for PC or MAC users
  4. MAC users need to install the printer drivers and then run the LTP addOCADprinters installer.
  5. Wait a few moments until the application indicates setup is complete.
  6. Resend your print job.
