CERAMICS
Overview
The Ceramics Studio (Room 253) offers an exceptional opportunity to work in a generous studio environment with access to a broad range of equipment designed to support most aspects of contemporary ceramic practice:
- Mouldmaking
- Model making
- Slip casting
- Hand-building
- Throwing on the potters wheel
- Decorating
- Applied imagery
- Glazing
Schedule
Materials
Consumable materials can be purchased from technicians or class assistants during open studio hours. Please check studio and shop schedules in order to ensure you are not interrupting a class when you go to buy materials. Materials can only be bought using OCAD U tickets. Tickets can be purchased from the Cashier, Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Cashier is located in the Rosalie Sharp Pavilion, 115 McCaul Street, Level 1.
The following materials are readily available to students for purchase:
- Clay
- Casting Slip
- Plaster
- Glaze and glaze materials
- Terra Sigillata
- Underglaze
- Wax Resist Emulsion
Facilities & Equipment
Mouldmaking: Marble-top plaster table, casting table, plaster wheel, Jigger/jolly, band saw, caudles and clamps
Throwing and Hand-building Studio: 24ft x 4ft working table, 14 Brent Pottery wheels, PSH slab roller, plaster wedging tables
Glaze & Materials Room: Glazing area, mixing area, pug mill
Kiln Room: Bailey shuttle pro 32 gas kiln, electric Cone Art kilns: two oval kilns (4227), three round kilns of different sizes (2827, 2327, 2318), Mercedes test kiln.
Additional Equipment: Spray booth, grinding wheels, glaze mixing equipment, spray bottles and equipment, cyclone sandblaster, plaster reclaim tables, reference library.
