OFFICE OF SAFETY & RISK MANAGEMENT
Health and Safety
- Responsible for health and safety issues (e.g. chemicals, equipment safety, materials safety, etc.)
- Safety review and approval of student art and design installations in public space.
- Fire safety review and approval of student work that may require the use of fire, candles, etc.
- Investigate concerns around indoor air quality (e.g. scents, odours, smells).
- Respond to and investigate accidents, injuries, workplace violence incidents, near misses, etc.
Insurance and Risk
- Identify risk associated with our work and learning activities and environment.
- Make arrangements for appropriate insurance where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage risk by implementing a formal framework and strategy for risk identification, assessment, prevention and management to ensure protection of life, reputation and assets.
- Ensure compliance with municipal, provincial and federal regulatory requirements, as well as other applicable standards, including conducting related audits, reporting, training and education for employees and students.
- Maintain effective liaison with regulatory agencies and other applicable organizations.
- Develop and implement systems, policies, procedures and programs that support our mission, including the identification, collection and analysis of risk related information.
- Providing guidance, assistance and support to faculty, staff and students regarding risk, health and safety.
- Collect, evaluate and maintain risk related data and serve as the university’s liaison to applicable insurance carriers.
