Susan McGovern
Susan McGovern is the Assistant Executive Director of both the Ontario Sewer and Watermain Construction Association and the Greater Toronto Sewer and Watermain Contractors Association. These Associations represent hundreds of construction companies across the province responsible for delivering Ontario’s clean water and wastewater systems. Susan’s responsibilities include government, public and stakeholder relations, member assistance, communications, marketing, corporate development and Board support.
During her time at MaRS Innovation as Vice President, Susan managed the corporate development of this new collaborative organization responsible for turning research strengths into economic opportunities for Canada. She was responsible for all aspects of the operational launch and for supporting a diverse Board of Directors and 16 of Toronto’s renowned academic institutions. Prior to that, Susan was the Director of Regional Affairs for Canada’s Finance Minister where she was responsible for federal policies and programs in support of economic development across the GTA. She focused on communication and marketing strategies, stakeholder outreach and intergovernmental affairs in the GTA. Previous to this, Susan held several senior level positions in the Ontario Government including Vice President of Infrastructure Ontario where she played an integral role in the development and growth of the Province’s first ever Loan Program. Here she negotiated financing agreements, managed bond sales strategies and developed and implemented long-term corporate and communication plans. She was also Director of Budget Secretariat and Senior Policy Advisor to the Deputy of Finance.
Susan attended the University of Western Ontario where she studied Geology. Susan serves on various Boards and on a charitable organization responsible for creating safe, inclusive, accessible programs and services for persons with disabilities. She lives in Gormley with her husband and their three teenage sons.
