IDEO Creative Director Jane Fulton Suri to speak at
OCAD’s M.C. McCain Design Speaker Series
TORONTO, January 14, 2009—The Faculty of Design of the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) presents a talk by Jane Fulton Suri, Chief Creative Director of IDEO, on Thursday, January 29 at 7:00 p.m. Fulton Suri’s talk is part of the 2008–09 M.C. McCain Design Speaker Series, which launched last fall with a lecture by writer/director and CBC Radio One host Terry O’Reilly.
Since joining IDEO (the Palo Alto, California-based global design firm responsible for such landmark products as Apple’s first computer mouse), Jane Fulton Suri has played a global leadership role in evolving content and craft, human insight, and design thinking in support of client projects worldwide. She came to design from a background in human factors psychology and architecture, with a pioneering ambition to integrate social science-based perspectives with design practice, to evolve human-centred design methods (including empathic observation and experience prototyping), and to foster a community of collaborators. Fulton Suri has written for BusinessWeek magazine and the Journal of Advertising Research. She is the author of Thoughtless Acts? Observations on Intuitive Design (Chronicle Books, 2005), a book that looks at how IDEO creates the people-friendly products, services, and spaces for which it is so widely recognized. A resident of Berkeley, California, Fulton Suri teaches regularly at Stanford University, the Haas School of Business (at the University of California, Berkeley), and the California College of the Arts.
