Project 31 auctions art and design works by

OCAD U faculty in support of students, programs

(Toronto — February 16, 2011) This March, OCAD University’s playing show and tell — revealing an original work of art by one of 31 members of the university’s faculty each day of the month in lead up to the Project 31 live auction on Thursday, March 31 beginning at 6 p.m.

Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, Project 31 pairs the generous support of OCAD U’s acclaimed faculty members with specific areas of need at the university. “Each faculty member directs the proceeds from the sale of their original art work,” explains Susan Sutton, Vice-President, Institutional Advancement and President of the OCAD University Foundation. “This might be to increase live model hours for Illustration students; program-specific scholarships, awards or bursaries for students; funding for the OCAD U Library and Learning Zone; funding for the Florence Off-Campus Studies Program, among other things.”

Selected through a jury of faculty members, curators and collectors, most of the works are valued at over $3,000, representing a significant boost to student support and OCAD U operations. “Project 31 is an opportunity for budding and seasoned collectors to obtain works by renowned Canadian artists and designers, while at the same time supporting the students who benefit from their mentorship,” says Sutton, “We’re so grateful for our community’s incredible generosity, and to be able to direct the proceeds from their donations to areas close to their hearts.”

A month-long experience, Project 31 will unveil a new work each day of the month of March online at www.ocad.ca/project31. Sign up for weekly updates, or follow OCAD University on Twitter (http://twitter.com/OCADUniversity) or Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/OCADUniversity).
