Much-anticipated Whodunit? OCADU Mystery Art Sale

kicks off with Gala Preview

(Toronto — November 2, 2010) OCAD University (OCADU) kicks off its 9th annual Whodunit? Mystery Art Sale with a Gala Preview on Wednesday, November 17 at 6:30 p.m.

While previewing the hundreds of pieces of mystery art for public sale (on November 20), guests at this year’s Gala can place their silent bids on a special collection of dozens of framed mystery art works, and try their hand at winning works by the city’s hottest young artists, including Amanda Clyne, Matt Bahen, Tristram Lansdowne, Vanessa Maltese, Megan McCabe, Meryl McMaster, Ian McMurrich, Katie Pretti and Winnie Truong, in the Emerging Artists Live Auction.

“The Whodunit? Gala Preview is a rare opportunity to pick up incredible works by highly sought-after emerging artists,” explains Curatorial Committee Chair Wil Kucey, Director of LE Gallery in Toronto. “Those looking to start collecting art, or those looking to expand their collections with works by artists about to explode internationally should not miss this event.”

What is Whodunit?
One of Toronto’s most anticipated annual art events, the Whodunit? Mystery Art Sale presents work by OCAD students, faculty, alumni, acclaimed artists and designers and creative celebrities — all the same size (5½” x 7½”) and all the same price ($75). The mystery comes into play with the artist’s identity hidden from view. Once an artwork is purchased it is turned over to reveal the artist’s name. Since it began in 2001, Whodunit? has raised more than $900,000 to support creativity and learning for students at OCAD University. Help us reach the $1 million mark in 2010! Previews of the artworks begin in person and online on November 17 at noon and continue until November 19 at 8 p.m. Work is sold on a first-come, first-served basis on Saturday, November 20, starting at 10 a.m. Admission is free. The Whodunit Gala Preview event takes place on November 17. Tickets for the Gala Preview are on sale for $150, and include a charitable receipt.
