(Toronto—December 17, 2009) The Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) today announced the new slate of members to the Board of Governors for the 2009-2011 term. Board Chair J. Anthony Caldwell, LLB is stepping down after six years of dedicated service. Caldwell served as a member of the OCAD Board of Governors from February 2003 to October 2005, when he became Chair. Caldwell, who heads up Caldwell Barristers, successfully led the Board through the first half of the university’s strategic plan, during which time he contributed significantly to OCAD’s strategic direction, OCAD’s presentation to governments and other stakeholders, and to the university’s physical expansion. Caldwell completed his term in October, 2009.

Robert Montgomery replaces J. Anthony Caldwell as Chair of the Board of Governors. Mr. Montgomery is an influential figure in the investment, digital media and information technology industries. A longtime media and technology executive in Europe and the US, Mr. Montgomery is an investor in emerging companies and owns Achilles Media in Toronto, a business-to-business media company behind leading media, technology and investment industry events such as the Banff World Television Festival, nextMEDIA, and the Canadian Innovation Exchange, where he also acts as Co-Chair.

Allow me to also take this opportunity, now, to welcome Ian C. Tudhope into the position of Vice Chair. Ian is Chairman and CEO of Arcterra Corporation and brings deep management experience to the Board. Finally, I would like to thank the outgoing and hard-working board members who gave generously of their time in the interest of our university."

"I would like to add a personal note of thanks to Anthony Caldwell for his generosity. He has been a steadying and strategic force for our university and tremendously supportive of our administration and to me, personally, as President," stated Sara Diamond. "As OCAD continues its important work, as defined in the university’s strategic plan, I am confident that Robert Montgomery, already an enthusiastic OCAD ambassador, will make a significant contribution to our leadership, as he adds his immense communication talents and skills to the Board."
