OCAD Board of Governors renews
President Sara Diamond’s contract
(Toronto—September 17, 2009) The Board of Governors of the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) is pleased to announce the extension of Dr. Sara Diamond’s contract as President of the university.
The Board unanimously accepted the recommendations of the Presidential Review Committee (the “PRC”) to renew President Diamond’s contract for a five-year period. Dr. Sara Diamond’s second term runs from July 2010 to June 2015.
The PRC is a committee of the Board formed in March 2009 to review the President’s performance and to make recommendations with respect to the renewal of her term. The PRC included Board, faculty, student and alumni representation. It received extensive written submissions from both inside and outside the OCAD community, conducted interviews with senior internal and external leaders, and held several meetings with President Diamond.
In the four years that President Diamond has served OCAD, the university has moved forward in achieving its ongoing strategic goals: building an even stronger studio-based university learning environment with excellence in disciplinary and new cross-disciplinary offerings; launching dynamic graduate programs; greatly enhancing research practices and profile; building strong community, institutional and corporate alliances; creating a greater understanding of art, design, creative industries and digital media at the policy level, and strengthening the university’s capital base, including its physical facilities.
Upon learning of the Board of Governor’s decision, President Diamond said,
“I am eager to embrace new challenges and to continue to create new opportunities together with our students, faculty, staff and many partners. I remain as committed as ever to evolving OCAD to the highest possible level to the benefit of all stakeholders, internal and external. To this end, I am fortunate to be inspired and surrounded by an imaginative university collective.”
As we welcome the incoming class of 2009-10 this September, the Board of Governors thanks President Diamond for her passion and dedication to the students, faculty and staff and offers her their warmest congratulations on her leadership of the university.
Well-wishers may direct congratulatory notes to Dr. Diamond
