OCAD professor appointed to AGO Board of Trustees
(Toronto—June 30, 2009) Barbara Astman, Professor in the Faculty of Art at the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD), has been appointed to the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) Board of Trustees. She will serve a one-year renewable term.
“Professor Astman’s appointment to the AGO’s Board is a testament to her success as an artist, teacher and champion of public art ,” said Sarah McKinnon, Vice-President, Academic. “OCAD and the AGO have always shared a special relationship, as collaborators, as neighbours and as cornerstones of art education in Ontario. I have no doubt that Professor Astman’s service to the AGO will strengthen this historic bond.”
Astman’s nomination was based on both her personal practice and her work as a professor at OCAD. Her areas of expertise include contemporary photography, digital imaging, and installation-based art. Her work can be found in museum, corporate, and private collections in Canada, the United States and Europe and in public spaces, such as the Canadian Embassy in Berlin.
