OCAD’s Sketch magazine wins Silver award from

Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education

(Toronto—June 9, 2009) Sketch, the flagship magazine of the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD), is the winner of a Silver award for Best Magazine Under $100,000, presented yesterday by the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE) at its national conference in Hamilton.

Published twice yearly, Sketch celebrates excellence in art and design education, research and practice. The magazine covers the professional work and achievements of OCAD alumni and faculty, as well as visiting international lecturers and residents — notable artists, designers, scholars, researchers and theorists. The magazine also explores new developments in art and design, and in art and design education and research.

Sketch was described by a jury (composed of CCAE members and third-party judges) as “a gorgeous magazine with flair, with engagingly written and thought-provoking features … [Sketch] successfully presents the vitality and quality of the institution’s activities and instructors.”

CCAE’s Prix D’Excellence awards recognize outstanding achievements in alumni affairs, public affairs, development, student recruitment and overall institutional advancement. Sketch was joined in its category by the University of Saskatchewan’s Explore, which won the Gold prize, and The Banff Centre’s Inspired, which won Bronze.
