raster-noton co-founders Carsten Nicolai and
Olaf Bender to deliver talk at OCAD
(Toronto—May 14, 2009) The Interdisciplinary Master’s in Art, Media and Design program at the Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) is pleased to present a public lecture by experimental sound artist Carsten Nicolai and graphic designer Olaf Bender, on Monday, June 1 at 4:45 p.m. This event is presented in collaboration with Yatra-Arts and the Goethe-Institut Toronto.
Since 1999, Bender and Nicolai (a.k.a. Alva-Noto), who co-founded the German electronic record label “raster-noton,” have been experimenting with minimalist sound, modular graphics and multimedia installation art. More recently, at the 2009 club transmediale (CTM) in Berlin, raster-noton launched its first edition of “rhythm_screen,” a performance space that combines sound, light and architecture. Nicolai and Bender will be performing this year at the annual MUTEK festival in Montreal; following their talk at OCAD, they will perform at Toronto’s Drake Hotel.
