Guests at Project 31. Photo: Lino Ragno. The inaugural Project 31 auction, held last Wednesday, March 31, was a great success. The event, featuring the donated work of 31 OCAD faculty members, raised funds for a variety of causes at OCAD, such as student scholarships and bursaries, increased model hours, faculty professional development funding, and OCAD’s Library and Learning Zone. Each participating artist or designer was able to specify where the proceeds from the sale of their works would be directed.
“The excitement in the room was wonderful,” reflected Jessica Kamphorst, Executive Director of Development & Alumni Relations at OCAD, and President of the OCAD Foundation. “Thank you to all the bidders and buyers, and especially to the artists and designers who were so generous with their work.”
Phantom House, by Judith Doyle. One of the highlights of the evening was the sale of Associate Professor Judith Doyle’s digital artwork Phantom House, produced in the online virtual world Second Life. Phantom House was exhibited at Project 31 in the form of an HD DVD on a large-screen LCD monitor, and in a small digital picture frame. The work sold for $1,500, a record for a new-media work sold in Canada, according to auctioneer Stephen Ranger.
OCAD wishes to thank the Project 31 committee members for their work in shaping the event, their contributions of artwork and their support. They are: Paul Dallas, Dan Donovan, April Hickox, Tony Kerr, Anda Kubis, Luke Painter, Keith Rushton, Vlad Spicanovic, Dot Tuer and Catherine Williams.
