Negative Attraction chair design by Ewelina Pankowska. The OCAD U Student Gallery’s exhibition Tables, Chairs & Other Unrelated Objects has been named the People’s Choice: Favourite Exhibition in the Toronto Design Offsite Festival, which took place January 21 to 27.
The exhibition explores the role of furniture — as a medium for personal expression, as a reflection of social and cultural norms, and as an influence upon human behaviour.
In addition to the exhibition recognition, one of the works in the show, Negative Attraction, by 2012 Environmental Design graduate Ewelina Pankowska, won the festival’s People’s Choice: Favourite New Work award.
The opening night of Tables, Chairs & Other Unrelated Objects recorded the highest attendance yet for any exhibition presented at the OCAD U Student Gallery, with more than 650 visitors over the course of the evening. On top of several recommendations as a must-see event in the festival, the show’s organizers are celebrating its huge success.
Tables, Chairs & Other Unrelated Objects includes works by Jeremy Alter, Nathan Asis, Sean Collins, Sarah Eldershaw, Edward Fong, Alex Taehyuk Ko, Greg McRoberts, Sanaz Mianji, Ewelina Pankowska, Seung-Min Park, Dora Poon, Zeynep Sen, Jade Junghyun Yoo and Aleena Zadi, and was organized by Matthew Cherkas, Bahar Ghaemi and Vincent Joseph Monastero, and continues until Saturday, February 9, 2013.
